Bard of Dorchester Delivers Writing Workshop
Both St Nicholas and St Laurence CE and Radipole Primary Schools were thrilled to be given a creative writing workshop by the Bard of Dorchester Rebecca Danicic and Grand Bard of Dorset, Peter Roe at Wey Valley Academy in Weymouth. The event was aimed at Year 6 pupils who were considering and have accepted Wey Valley as their first choice of secondary school in September .
During the workshop, pupils were asked to perform a poem in groups and to consider the performativity of the bardic tradition. Danicic and Roe explored the history of oral narratives and how language and the stage co-exist. Mark Damon Chutter, Head of Performing Arts and Personal Development Lead at Wey Valley Academy, exclaimed ' guest speakers and creative events have been embedded in our curriculum here over the past five years with visits from Lord Julian Fellowes, Kate Adie, Annie Freud, Tracy Chevalier and Paula Byrne.
Mr Steven Dyer, Principal said ' these events for our Primary feeder schools are such significant transition points for pupils so that there is a seamless segue to secondary education here at Wey Valley for them in September. My thanks to the Bard of Dorchester for such an imaginative session enabling pupils to be creative and innovative alongside developing their reading skills which is at the heart of our academy'.
